HISTORY LESSON

    In August 1994, the Virtual Parrot Head Club was just a glimmer in the fertile mind of Jill Pearson. With her eyes on the horizon, a strong will and the charm of an angel, she forged the nucleus of a different kind of Parrot Head club... an online Parrot Head Club! There would be no geographical boundaries to limit membership, only one's appreciation for the lifestyle Jimmy Buffett sings about would be a requirement for membership. Using the tools available at the time, Jill built the Virtual Parrot Head Club in the Parrot Head's section of CompuServe's Florida forum

    In less than two years, membership blossomed and message activity often matched or exceeded the Disney section! Jimmy Buffett himself would leave an occasional message. Jill then masterminded a series of live backstage conferences with Jimmy and the Coral Reefers.

    The success of the Virtual Parrot Head Club was recognized by the official Jimmy Buffett Parrot Head Club sanctioning body, Parrot Heads in Paradise, when it granted the VPHC an official charter... the first, and only online Parrot Head Club! With the introduction of a Virtual Parrot Head Club web site in the spring of 1996, Jill's dream was given international exposure.

    The growing desire to join the Virtual Parrot Head Club without the requirement of CompuServe membership was visible on the past web site's Scribble's page. Joining the movement of the computer industry toward a "point and click" desktop environment that considers the World Wide Web just another folder, the VPHC Board of Directors, after long and careful consideration, decided to open the membership up to everyone, regardless of how they access the club's facilities.

    Jill's dream has grown to global proportions. By joint agreement with the Virtual Parrot Head Club and Parrot Head's in Paradise, Inc. the Virtual Parrot Head Club will be the only Parrot Heads in Paradise-sanctioned online Parrot Head Club, bringing all online Parrot Heads under one organization.

    On November 15, 1996, membership to the Virtual Parrot Head Club was open to anyone with access to the World Wide Web, or the ability to email from any online service.

    In 2011, the Virtual Parrot Heads Club was taken under the wing of Parrot Head's in Paradise, Inc. with the vision to bring the VPHC back to it's "glory days". Dianne Wickes is acting as club president at this time. Her email address is greenwomanvphc@aol.com. It is our vision to have a complete board in place in 2012, the return of PayPal for paying dues, a Bulletin Board where VPHC members can leave message for all things PHiP Parrot Head happening on the big round ball.
